A note, the Windows version of iTunes (which is what we’re using for the demonstration) is able to easily process WMA files. However, if you’re on a Mac computer, you might find it necessary to convert your WMA audio to the more iTunes-compatible ALAC file extension. I will appreciate any help from anyone who shows me how to play wma audio files in Itunes. I do not want to use an outside non-Apple audio video converter. The quick time program plays the audio file but I do not know how to bring it in the Itunes Library.

Converting WMA Files
In iTunes for Windows, you can convert your unprotected WMA files to AAC files (or whatever file format is chosen in the Importing pane of iTunes Preferences) without changing the original WMA file. Simply drag the WMA files into your library in iTunes and iTunes does the grunt work, converting them for you. Windows Media Player 9 or later must be installed to convert unprotected WMA files. Protected WMA files cannot be converted.

- My question is: If I exit iTunes (i.e. Reboot my computer) and then go back to iTunes, will iTunes continue finishing the conversion process?
My iTunes has been converting WMA files for 11 days now.
It's converting my entire multi-thousand album collection from windows media player into iTunes.
Will it start where it left off?
Or, the dreaded, will it start all over again, causing thousands of duplicates in my new iTunes library?
The ONLY status bar shows the current song, I have no idea which order it's going in or how much longer it has to go.
I understood it would take a long time to convert the thousands of WMA files into iTunes format, but I have no way to know how much longer it will take, or if it's interupted what will happen!
Thanks -

Message was edited by: jbmanzUnderstood. If I quit iTunes before it's done converting the files I had previously selected, it will not continue to convert the WMA's to iTunes format. I will have to re-select the songs I want converted.
Now: What if I select the entire folder (containing all songs, some already converted into iTunes, others not yet converted) - will iTunes RE-Convert songs that it has already converted (therefore creating duplicates in my library)? Or is the software able to recognize that an identical entry is already in its library index? - How do convert .wma files recorded on an Olympus Voice recorder for use in Logic? Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.
tt2 - I have an Olympus digital voice recorder that saves files in a WMA format. I would like to play these files in iTunes. I know I can play them on Windows Media Player, and have done so. Is there a way to convert these wma files to iTunes? I've tried importing, Adding to Library, dragging the file onto the iTunes icon, etc. Or, is there 3rd party software that can convert it?
Thanks for your help.I stumbled across a method of converting unprotected wma files to aiff files using free tools you probably already have.
If you have iMovie HD 6 and Flip4Mac, then you can drag a wma into an iMovie project and it and Flip4Mac will convert the file to an aiff. You can find it within the media folder in the movie project.
You can then let iTunes convert the aiff to the compressed format of your choice. Since you're going through a double conversion, I'm assuming there will be some loss of quality. In some respects your question is not about iTunes but about how to convert a file into a format that iTunes/QT can play. QT plays various CODECS and there are a number of plugins available for QT to play additional CODECS beyond the standard default set.

Correct. Dragging the MP3s into iTunes adds them to your iTunes library. Once they are in your library, you can add them to a playlist. When you have your playlist in the right sequence, click on File > Burn Playlist to Disc. - When i convert my wma files and put them into my itunes program it converts them automaticly but it mess up all my albums it split albums and it put lonely song here and there and i cannot put them back were they bellong..why it does that ? I LOVE my Nano!
However, I'm wanting to import some movies into iTunes so I can watch them on my Nano. It sounds ridiculous but I really can't figure out how to do this! Do I HAVE to have / buy a conversion program, eg: Quick Time Pro? Obviously none of my .avi files will move into iTunes and I can't change / convert them. How does everyone get their movies into iTunes if they're not a Quick Time supported file? And therefore, how do you convert the files in order to do so?
Any help would be awesome!
Many thanksChecked out some posts from older discussions and found the answer I needed! Downloaded Videora and it's great. Cheers discussion forum! - My coworker gave me a voice recorder that records in WMA files. I cannot simply drag the audio file into iTunes like I have from other recorders. I need to get the audio into iTunes so I can burn to CD. Any ideas?Problems -
EasyWMA is not free.
Switch looks fine, but after installing the wma plugin as prompted, and feeding it the first batch of .wma files, it crashed.
I'm now 'borrowing' an EasyWMA.
Pros : simple to use. you can have it process your entire music folder at once. adds songs to itunes right away.
Cons : limited functionality! E.g. there's no option for VBR (variable bit rate), so I set it to 256 fixed. E.g. when having it run through my entire music folder, there was no option to restrict it to wma files - it also worked my flac's, for which I'd already found a better solution (fluke).
Sigh Hate to complain, but hey, this stuff would be easier on Windows - *PLEASE HELP!!!* While waiting to buy my iMac I saved my Canon Vixia HF200 AVCHD video clips on a PC with backups stored on an external HD. I transferred these to my iMac and they are in .MTS format. I can not open them in either iMovie or Final Cut Express 4. I gather I need to convert the files somehow. What is the best way to do this? _Thank you for your help!_Here are your options now that you just have the files..

As Tom said, next time import directly from the volume rather than copying the .mts files. - I'm not sure if someone else has figured this out or not, but I figured out how to convert WMA files to AAC or MP3 for Itunes. First open the file using Quicktime. I think you need the Flip4Mac program. I'm not sure and you also need Quicktime pro. Choose Save. Select standalone movie. Choose location. It will convert song to movie, then import all your movies you selected. Organize Itunes by 'Kind'. Select all of your new movies files. Choose Advanced and convert to your appropriate file type.
I looked for a while and couldn't find a good way to change wma to aac. This takes a little bit, but it works. What do you think? It works for me.Or, as has been pointed out in numerous posts, you can use EasyWMA.
http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23003 - Hi everyone! does anyone know how to convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date? Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip and Evon all replace the original timecode with the date of modification. This is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the chronology right. I know that if you upload the files to iMovie from one device the chronology isn't a problem, but I'm adding video files from a couple of iPhones and a couple of camcorders. any help much appeciated.
